Naupaka Mo‘olelo Keychain
This keychain shares the mo‘olelo (Hawaiian story) of two lovers, Napuaka (sister of Pele) and Kau‘i. Pele grew jealous of their affection and sent to put an end to their love. Fearful of Pele’s wrath, Kau‘i fled to the kuahiwi (mountains) and Naupaka escaped toward the kahakai (seaside) where they could never be together again. The naupaka flowers that we know today appear to be half flowers, symbolic of the lovers who will never be whole without each other. One variety of napuaka is found in the mountains—naupaka kuahiwi—and another is commonly found at the seaside—naupaka kahakai.
Naupaka kuahiwi sits at the top of the ring and is made of oak ply, representative of the kuahiwi (mountains). The naupaka kahakai hangs lower on a link chain and is made of white acrylic, symbolic of the glassy waters of the kahakai (seashore).
Processing time is up to 7-10 days.
